Johnnie Boden is a self-confessed ‘pernickety customer’. When he couldn’t find the just-right shirt, he made it himself. That was in 1991 when eight just-right shirts went from Johnnie’s kitchen table and out into the wider world. Fast-forward, and we’re now a business with a turnover of more than £250 million (and growing).
Some things have changed since 1991. We’ve gone from catalogues to the internet –boden.com launched in 1999 – and we now have customers all over the world. We’ve made ourselves at home on the high street too. We opened our first shop in 2004 in Hanger Green, London, more have followed, plus our concessions in John Lewis in the UK and Nordstrom in the USA.
We’ve also moved our operation from Johnnie’s kitchen to the significantly larger Boden House, in glamour-lite North Acton (that’s in West London in case it’s not on your radar). Plus, we’ve got a gigantic warehouse in Leicester,
an American office in a trendy part of Boston and our US warehouse in Pittston, Pennsylvania. Altogether, more than 1000 of us create clothes that are timeless and tailored, British and bold. And, we’re powered by the free tea, coffee and toast provided every morning, not to mention Marmite (or peanut butter if you’re Stateside).
Whether you work in our UK or US offices, warehouses or our shops, a stylish wardrobe comes as standard with a bumper clothing allowance, as well as a 30% discount. We care about the well-being of our employees so there’s a subsidised gym near our head office, regular training courses to help you get better at what you do, and, every six weeks, you can have an hour-long one-to-one session with The Mind Clinic to talk about those tricky things that makes life complicated.
Did someone say HOLIDAY? In addition to annual leave there is the opportunity to buy more days if you’re off for a longer adventure. Plus, you
get an extra day for every year you work with us (up to five years). We also celebrate a variation on POETS day (Google it if you don’t know what we’re on about) – you get to take off a whole afternoon in lieu of the overtime you’ve worked.
Our summer parties are infamous – with a ‘Boden’s Got Talent’ dance competition, fancy dress (don’t panic – it’s optional), unlimited ice cream and drinks, or the chance to just enjoy the sunshine (hopefully).
Putting the perks aside, Boden is a brand that values creative thinkers and wants to help develop their skills. Surely that’s the best benefit there is?
